Redcaps

RED-caps

Pretty Redcap Wilder- BEWARE!

Overview

Redcaps are nightmares, plain and simple. The common theory is that they are the coalescence of dreams of violence and pain, and they seem to like the idea. They got their name from an old habit of dipping their wool caps in the blood of their victims. They are not as physically impressive as Trolls, but what they lack in prowess they make up with being just plain mean.

Anyone who claims to have seen a Seelie Redcap is either lying or has seen a member of a seriously endangered species. This usually Unseelie kith is populated with violent, nasty fae who get most of their jollies from causing pain in blunt and interesting ways. The rare Seelie Redcap has an unfortunate tendency to meet his Unseelie brethren and either try to kill them en masse or convert them, usually with the same result- his death. If a Fae can find a Seelie redcap, they are good to have on your side in a fight, because they carry this willingness to fight against suicidal odds into most situations. Even the Eshu are impressed by these fae.

Fortunately for the general populace, the bad attitude of your average Redcap is not backed up by much brain power. They are rarely very intelligent, so if you avoid their territory, you stand a decent chance of not losing any limbs to them. On the down side, they have a tendency and an ability to eat pretty much anything in sight, including things that would make a shark vomit. Having your opponent eat your weapon is not exactly an auspicious way to begin a fight, and redcaps can eat literally anything they can get their mouths around. Anyone who has watched a Redcap smile will understand why this is a disturbing thought- they have flat, grey teeth and bulldog jaws, and the idea of being on the receiving end of a bite has hastened many a mugging.

Redcaps do not generally wear the traditional caps any longer, but they will almost have something red on their person- a bloodstained shirt or a shock of hair, for example. They tend to run in groups called Corbies, which usually roughly parallel the nastier gangs in a given area.
